#35 - What Makes a Great Drummer (with Ira Elliot from Nada Surf!)
Monday Aug 29, 2022
Monday Aug 29, 2022
The spotlight is on the drummers this week as Anthony, Stephanie and Alan are joined by IRA ELLIOT, the drummer from the band NADA SURF, to talk about what makes a great drummer! We debate the qualities that a good drummer needs to have and cite some of our favorite players, like Neil Peart (Rush), Stewart Copeland (The Police), Phil Collins (Genesis), Keith Moon (The Who), Gavin Harrison (Porcupine Tree), Gina Schock (The Go-Go's), Mike Portnoy (Dream Theater), Michael Derosier (Heart), and many others. And then we attempt to sing to each other our favorite drum fills! But first we get an update on Stephanie's single "There Was a Time" (which Ira played on) and talk about what we've been listening to.

Songs We Love by Artists We Don't Love
Even bands we can't stand get lucky sometimes and craft a song so good that we can't deny them! That's the topic this week for the Modern Musicology Team -- finding that oasis in the desert. Stephanie, Rob, Anthony and Alan excavate some unexpected treasures from bands and artists like Mariah Carey, Miley Cyrus, The Smashing Pumpkins, Shania Twain, and a whole lot more.

#33 - Bad Albums (or Songs) by Great Artists
Monday Aug 15, 2022
Monday Aug 15, 2022
Bad Albums (or Songs) by Great Artists! Every artist or band, no matter how great they are, have that one (hopefully only one!) album that just doesn't stack up to the rest of their output. Or, maybe that artist or band has a great album, but right in the middle is that one track that you just don't care for. That's the topic this week as Stephanie, Anthony, Rob and Alan dig through their collections to find some of the lowlights by U2, Prince, Stevie Nicks, INXS, Marillion, Suede and more. But first, we take a few moments to remember Olivia Newton-John and Lamont Dozier.
