Shoulder pads, spandex and Return of the Jedi -- it's 1983, baby! This week we look back at one of the most important years in music, with more huge albums and singles celebrating their 40th anniversary than you can shake a Cabbage Patch Doll at. The year is SO big, in fact, that we're splitting up into two episodes!
In Part 1, we take a look at the amazing music that was released January through June of 1983, including Eurythmics (Sweet Dreams), Def Leppard (Pyromania), Journey (Frontiers), U2 (War), Quiet Riot (Metal Health), ZZ Top (Eliminator), David Bowie (Let's Dance), Sparks (In Outer Space), Donna Summer (She Works Hard for the Money), Talking Heads (Speaking in Tongues), The Police (Synchronicity), plus debuts by Tears For Fears, Bananarama, REM, Billy Bragg, DIO, and a whole lot more.
There's absolutely no way we could cover everything released in this six-month period, so if there's anything we missed, let us know! Or if you want to share with us your favorite from the first half of 1983, we want to hear it! Drop us a line at modernmusicology1@gmail.com or leave a comment wherever you find our episode!
